Few things are not meant for something and unknowingly they just overhaul their cause for bigger grounds. In my fair view ‘Hamara Bajaj’ is one of those few things. There was time in India where only super rich guys were able to move around in automobiles and bicycles were the most common vehicle for middle class Janta. Then was the golden time of Bajaj Scooters and it did not made entry in our houses but straight in our hearts. Even the TV commercial for Bajaj scooters used to touch us and it even does today.
Scooter was common man’s car, huge leg space, can seat 3 sometimes 4, 5 and some time whole Family used to happily fly. The front leg space was utilized to hang vegetables, grocery bags even sometimes LPG cylinders. I know when pappa got his scooter; I was so happy to ride and was cleaning it every morning before pappa’s office time.
Since engine was on one side it had an advantage with disadvantage. Plus point is that it had a small closed box space on one side to keep some more things. And minus point is the one which make scooters unique. Before hitting on kick to fire it up, it has to bend to the ground on engines side and then kick it. A very inimitable and exclusive method. (Without peeping into technical glitch; I think it has to do something with petrol flow in engine)
‘Hamara Bajaj’ marked an era of vehicles on Indian roads and surely pushed people ahead of time. Few days back TOI flashed front page news about Bajaj rolling off scooter manufacturing and this news took me back to the times.
Buland Bharat ki buland Tasveer…. Hamara Bajaj.
